Refreshing the Community

Category: Uncategorized

Author: Jeff Steadman, Plant Operations Director

As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.

After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at Walden Place Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

Building Curb Appeal

We are currently partnering with a new lawn and landscape company, Nolan, to enhance the overall appearance of the community. Our primary focus areas include first impressions, spring cleanup, fertilization, and mowing services.

Mulch beds surrounding trees at Waden Place Senior Living, featuring newly added foliage.

We are also installing new plants and fresh mulch throughout the drive entrance, parking areas, and main building entrance. Additional exterior landscaping improvements are planned for mid-spring through early summer 2026.

One recent seasonal project involved replacing the retaining wall around the generator area. The finished project made the space look much better, and residents have been extremely pleased with the results.

During spring startup, we often identify issues from harsh winter conditions. These may include sidewalk edge damage from salt exposure, irrigation system damage from freezing temperatures, dead plants from extended hard freezes, and seasonal weed growth.

Planning Ahead

With a strong lawn care and landscaping plan in place, our goal is to create an exceptional first impression for residents, families, and visitors. Nolan’s landscape architect will help support that work.

We are excited about the improvements planned for this year and next season at Walden Place. Upcoming projects may include a two-tier retaining wall, additional sidewalk lighting, irrigation repairs or replacement, and upgraded plants and flowers. These updates will help create a more attractive and welcoming environment.

It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure Walden Place Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
